On the top floor of the north wing of Scripps Green Hospital, a rooftop courtyard allowed light to penetrate skylights of the multi-floor lobby below, but did little to lift the spirits of the patients and staff in adjacent rooms. Faced with limitations on weight, limited water, and minimal maintenance, R/Hdo designed the hospital garden, using space age materials, drip irrigation and easy-care plants to add color, movement, and life to the space.
