The Tainan Metropolitan Park (TMP) opened to the public on January 2009. The park features numerous high-quality cultural and educational venues, including Chi Mei Museum which is located on an island in the center of the park. According to the City’s Bureau of Culture, TMP will attract at least 1 million visitors per year.

The Taiwan Sugar Corporation provided the site, and the Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp constructed the new NT$1 billion museum complex with a total floor area of nearly 30,000 square meters. This impressive museum will enable Tainan County residents to enjoy art activities in a more professional and multifunction venue.

The metropolitan park was the result of a successful public-private venture. A multi-faceted partnership that included the Council for Economic Planning and Development, the Construction and Planning Agency, the Council for Cultural Affairs, and the Chi Mei Group found their diversity helped bring this project to completion in spite of many challenging issues.

Besides the museum, the park also includes a medium-sized concert performance venue, a place to promote social education activities, an outdoor exhibition area, an open-air theater, sports courts, and a unique water retention and purification system. A children’s adventure playground is included on a small island. All these facilities are linked by extensive landscaped gardens and bike lanes. Future improvements will include parking for over 300 cars and bus tours.
